Basic Grilled Cheese
so easy even my friend Jeff can make it

Yield: one sandwich

Time: about ten minutes

Ingredients

2 slices white bread
2 slices American cheese (Velveeta singles also work well)
2 tbsp tub margarine or soft butter

Preparation

1. Preheat a flat skillet or non-stick pan over medium heat. Be careful -- too hot a pan can burn the bread before the cheese inside melts.

2. Spread margarine/butter on BOTH sides of each piece of bread, making sure you cover the surface well.

3. Place one piece of bread into the pan. Arrange cheese slices so that they overlap and cover the surface of the bread without extending over the edge.

4. Cover cheese with the other slice of bread.

5. Cook on one side for 2 - 3 minutes. If you can slide a spatula underneath the sandwich without meeting resistance, it's probably ready to be turned.

6. Cook the other side for an additional 2 - 3 minutes. Because the darkness of the grilled bread is a matter of personal taste, flip the sandwich every minute or so thereafter until it reaches the desired golden brown color.
